Dinai Yelverton, founder of the Experiences That Matter Foundation, recently received a significant boost for her mission to improve health outcomes in underserved communities.
Her Black-owned mobile vision clinic, the 2020 Perfect Vision Campaign, was awarded a $25,000 grant at Invest Fest 2024. This grant, provided by HealthyMD in collaboration with Earn Your Leisure (EYL), recognizes the clinic’s outstanding work in offering essential eye care services to those who need it most.
The Impact of the $25K Grant on 2020 Perfect Vision Campaign
The $25K grant is a game-changer for Yelverton’s mobile vision clinic. With this financial support, the clinic can continue offering free vision screenings, eye exams, and prescription lenses to Chicago residents. Yelverton expressed her gratitude, saying, “This grant is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team and partners who have been committed to this project for the past five years.”
The 2020 Perfect Vision Campaign was created to address the health disparities that disproportionately affect Black and Brown communities. Many of these communities lack access to essential services, including eye care, simply because they cannot afford them. The grant will help close these access gaps, allowing Yelverton’s clinic to expand its reach and impact.
A Labor of Love: Yelverton’s Dedication to Health Equity
Yelverton’s passion for health equity has been the driving force behind the 2020 Perfect Vision Campaign. Building the mobile clinic has been a labor of love, and the recent recognition at Invest Fest highlights the importance of her work. “I’m excited to pick the brains of both Cliff and Steve to understand how they overcame some of the obstacles we are now facing,” Yelverton shared, emphasizing her eagerness to learn and grow from industry leaders.
The Experiences That Matter Foundation, led by Yelverton, has been dedicated to creating programs that address the specific needs of underserved communities. The mobile vision clinic is just one example of how the foundation is making a tangible difference in the lives of many.
HealthyMD and EYL: Supporting Black Entrepreneurs in Healthcare
The HealthyMD x EYL Healthcare StartUp Grant was created to uplift Black entrepreneurs who are making a real difference in their communities, particularly in the healthcare industry. The co-founders of HealthyMD emphasized the importance of supporting businesses like Yelverton’s. “Through this grant, our goal was to uplift fellow entrepreneurs aiming to make a true difference in their communities, and The Experience Matters Foundation aligns with this mission.”
The grant not only provides financial support but also serves as a symbol of recognition and encouragement for Yelverton and her team. It underscores the value of their work and the impact they have on the health and well-being of underserved populations.
